Searching LJ

Well, that's kind of painful, but it does work. I was trying to search on LJ, and didn't see any way to do it. After poking around a bit, this seems to work:

1. go to your profile
2. click on the little magnifying glass (Sherlock Holmes?)

That gives you a search in your own journal. E.g., the URL is something like

http://www.livejournal.com/tools/search.bml?journal=mbarker

Now, to search somewhere else (such as theo_waitley), simply edit the URL so that the final part has the right journal in it (journal=theo_waitley). Press return.

Then fill in the search term, and run the search.

Why don't they allow you to select a journal more easily? Who knows. But at least this seems to work. The LJ FAQ warns that the search is a thirdparty, and that it doesn't work on all journals. The ap has some warning about not necessarily being up-to-date, too. So use with care. But it's a search, for those hidden entries.

Now what started that?
