Now that's getting serious.
The problem with the young wrestlers who were fixing fights has now escalated. Because of the scandal, the spring tournament in Osaka is being canceled.
The commentator this morning explained that the tournament is worth about $13 MILLION to the sumo association. So they've lost roughly $1 million per month for the year. That's not counting the cost to vendors and others who apparently make a reasonably good profit on the people coming to the the tournament, that's just the sumo association income.
Ouch! All that because the young wrestlers wanted to make a little more money?
And there is talk of perhaps reducing the sumo association tax breaks, too. Again, with really amazing amounts of money being mentioned.
Hum. Maybe the public should consider the young wrestlers as doing good? After all, now everyone is looking closely at the sumo budgets, and wondering...
