Now That Deserves a Darwin Award
May. 12th, 2007 07:25 pmThis was on the Japanese news this evening, and I may not have gotten all of it exactly right. However, apparently a group of young men got together at a club, started drinking about four or five o'clock this evening, and proceeded to get very drunk. In the process, they splashed one of their members thoroughly with alcohol. He apparently took his clothes off, probably because they were splashed with the booze. So far, not so unusual, right?
However, our young drunk next proceeded to try to smoke a cigarette. They must've been drinking pretty high octane booze, because he managed to set himself on fire.
It wasn't clear from the news report whether he just managed to give himself serious burns or killed himself. Perhaps they don't know yet, since this was a breaking news story a few minutes ago.
My wife and I both are a bit suspicious that the whole story hasn't been told yet. That business about taking his clothes off and still being soaked enough in alcohol to set himself on fire seems a bit odd. She suggested a very odd suicide attempt, I'm more suspicious that someone tried to do him in, but we both have to admit that inebriated people sometimes do strange things.
