The Quiet One

Before I forget, there was another young person at the church bazaar who got a crane. A bit older, this little mouse turned up quietly below the adults who were looking at the books. She wove through the legs and stomaches and hands, quickly locating the children's books. She selected a Draemon book and read it slowly and thoroughly. Then she put it back quite neatly and looked at the other offerings.

Somewhere in here I interrupted her browsing to offer her a crane, showing her how it moved its wings when you pull its tail. She took it without a word, just the smallest flash of a hesitant smile and I thought perhaps she was not pleased.

Then as she returned to browsing the offerings, lifting a book here and there, turning a few pages, then placing it carefully back, I realized that she was also carefully holding the crane, pinched between thumb and forefinger or passed to sit proudly on the back of her fingers, held between two fingers as she perused.

Just a passing silent mouse in the buzz of the bazaar crowd, but my little paper crane was quite complimented by her care. As was I.

Catching up on old Star Trek - Catspaw

just some odd notes from watching this today. This is the one where Intergalactic critters grab Kirk and others, holding them in a dungeon? Sulu, McCoy, and even Scotty get to shove the Captain around (although they do get knocked out towards the end). Anyway, we have Korob and Sylvia pressing the Captain to go along. And Kirk tries intergalactic seduction to get Sylvia. She offers to change her shape or form as a sort of temptation. Then she gets hurt and angry, saying, "you hold me in your arms, but there is no fire in your mind. You are using me!"

Let's see. Spock urges Kirk to climb with the line, "A bit more alacrity, Captain" which I found amusingly pedantic.

The ending was kind of quixotic, too. With McCoy saying, "it was all just an illusion" and Kirk responding, "it was no illusion. Jackson is dead." As the little critters smoked away.
