I don't usually comment on politics, but when President Bush says he won't sign a bill unless it gives him the power he wants, it reminds me so much of a little child saying unless I get the dessert I want, I'm not going to eat anything. If I'm reading it right, if he doesn't sign, he loses all the special powers in February when the current bill runs out - so where is the threat in not signing?

If the link up there doesn't work, here's the raw one: http://us.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/10/10/foreign.surveillance/index.html

What an odd threat. If you don't give me what I want, I'm not going to cooperate with you?

To which the person being threatened or blackmailed can only answer, "Okay."

Maybe I should send President Bush a copy of one of the Harvard negotiation books? He really needs to learn the concept of BATNA - Best Alternative To a Negotiated Agreement - because right now he's trying to end up with WATNA - Worst Alternative To a Negotiated Agreement.

Stick to not commenting on politics.

It is a sad time in history when US citizens (and others) should not comment on what their president says.
