This episode started with a short flashback to Shigeru and Fumie talking about the attempted purse-snatching, and Fumie wondering who that woman was who helped her (I think -- my notes aren't clear!)
Then the theme played.
As Fumie carried groceries toward the house, she saw a woman standing outside. It turned out to be her sister who lived in Tokyo, and Fumie invited her inside. The sister said she knocked and called, but no one answered.
As they walked in, a cat suddenly dashed out of the workroom, clearly upset. Shigeru came through the doors on hands and knees, then looked up. "Oh! A visitor?" Fumie introduced her sister, and Shigeru explained that he was trying to draw the cat. It sat in his lap, very nicely, but that won't work for the manga, so he grabbed it. It suddenly scratched him and ran away.
The sister said that she had knocked, but there was no answer. Shigeru said that sometimes when he was working, he didn't hear. He thanked her for sending the car, that it got them back to the house much faster, so that he could get back to work. And then he ducked back into his workroom and shut the doors.
Fumie and her sister talked. The sister asked why the wedding was so fast, and told Fumie that it wasn't good for her to walk alone to go shopping. She said it was a terrible house, and so far out in the country. The only good thing here is the clock I gave you...
Just then, there was a banging at the door. Shigeru's brother then came in, followed by his wife and children. He introduced them (Sachiko, Kento, Naniko). Fumie explained that Shigeru was working, and he said don't bother him. We'll just use the furuba (bath) and sent his wife and the kids off to start their bath. When Fumie and her sister looked amazed, he explained that there's no bath at their house, so once a week they come and take a bath at Shigeru's house. Fumie's sister said, "Well, now that he's married, I suppose you'll stop." The brother shook his head, "Oh, no, we're used to it, and it won't bother us that Fumie is here."
Next, the sister started to quiz the brother about how much Shigeru makes, but Fumie stopped her.
As the brother and family left, they thanked Fumie for letting them use the furo. The sister turned to Fumie and asked her, "Is this what you expected? He's very strange, are you sure you're okay? The house is falling apart... Ask him how much he makes, you have the right to know. He's an artist... I should call Father. What should I tell him?" Fumie said, "Tell him I'm fine. I understand you're worried, but he's going to sell some comics soon, and we'll have money. It's not so bad. Please don't worry the family. I'll do something if we need it."
Next we saw the sister leaving. She told Fumie to come visit anytime. And to call.
At the Murai house, Genbee (father) talked on the phone. Then he hung up, and Miyako (mother) and a sister asked him what the news was. He said Fumie was fine. Miyako worried about where she is getting groceries. Genbee said he didn't ask, but there is a good shopping area nearby.
Shigeru was drawing. Fumie was listing food prices. And voices replayed -- her sister's voice saying "Ask him how much he makes each month" and "Aren't you worried?"
The next day, Fumie found Komichi, a rental bookstore at the shopping area. She went inside and found an old woman napping at the counter, and kids sitting at a table looking at manga. She started looking over the racks, and found Shigeru's books. Just then, the woman who stopped the thief walked in. She laughed at the old woman and said, "Are you sleeping, mother?" Then she said, "Come on in" and the thief walked in carrying bundles. She saw Fumie and said, "Oh, it's you." The thief saw her and started to leave again. The woman called him, "Come back here." Then she invited Fumie into the living area behind the store to visit.
