Do I remember?
May. 17th, 2006 03:18 pmI just saw an ad for a new Sony laptop. If I read it right, one of the things it offers is a 1G disk.
This reminded me of the computer center honcho who proudly took me around to show me his computers. One of the highlights of the show was a big air-conditioned room with several (maybe 20?) large square boxes, kind of like oversized washing machines. As I remember it, they stood about chest high, and maybe a meter wide? He was quite proud of these, and explained that each one could hold 1 gigabyte of data!
About 1987? Just shy of 20 years ago. So 1 GB has gone from a square meter of equipment down to something that fits in a laptop.
