Zoo break?
Jan. 24th, 2010 07:28 pmHo-ho. One part of the news today is that there was an escape from the Ueno zoo today! If I heard it right, about 30 monkeys managed to escape their cage, and went wandering around Tokyo. They showed some video of some being recaptured -- redfaced, golden furred, and not very happy at being held by those men. But the zoo men who are hunting them are funny, too. They have large nets on sticks, and they are shown stepping slowly into bushes, looking up, down, sideways... clearly expecting that the monkeys are fast and sneaky.
According to the news report, a pipe that is held by straps near the top edge of the wall apparently broke. And the monkeys took advantage of the dangling pipe to climb out.
Hey, if you keep a zoo in the middle of a city, now and then, you're bound to have wild animals enjoying a small stroll.
