A Second Skin?
Aug. 9th, 2007 10:37 amI haven't got time to look at it right now, but over here http://techtv.mit.edu/file/237 there's a video presentation, and that sure looks like a prototype second skin on the young lady in the background?
Off we go, into the wild blue yonder . . .

Watch the whole video (is quite long). Interesting. Half is about maintaining human physiology in low or micro gravity. Other half is on designing a skinsuit.
I remember reading about skinsuit spacesuits in Jerry Pournelle's high frontier short stories in the mid-80's. Pournelle's foresights on skinsuits is of interest today. I see major issues with sanitation, thermal stabilization and moisture handling. But that's for scientists and designers to hashed out.
I wonder how they handle the issue of the human anatomy shape. In Pournelle's stories, there was one amusing scene about padding with plasticine like material under the bust to properly fit a female character's skinsuit.
