Resources for Writers (A Meme?)
Mar. 3rd, 2008 02:07 pmHum. Nancy Fulda, over at http://nancyfulda.livejournal.com/194236.html has a list of helpful resources specifically for new writers. And I thought perhaps I would (a) extract the format and (b) put up a list of my own. So, format first (feel free to copy this to your own blog and fill it in):
Resources for New Writers
Books on Writing
Discussion Forums on Writing, Publishing, Etc.
Online Critique Groups
Real Life Writing Workshops
Where to Find Good Fiction
Market Listings
And some of my choices are . . .
Resources for New Writers
Books on Writing
Science Fiction Workshop 1 by Barry Longyear
20 Master Plots by Ronald Tobias
Scene and Structure by Jack Bickham
Plot & Structure by James Scott Bell
Self-Editing for Fiction Writers by Renni Browne and Dave King
The Writer's Journey by Christopher Vogler
Market Listings
I actually don't know how good these are, but I have links to
http://www.duotrope.com/
http://storypilot.com/ SF&F markets
The old standby here was to suggest going to the library and looking for Writers Market, and I notice that there is a website at http://www.writersmarket.com/ but I really don't know whether it is worth it or not.
All of which reminds me that I need to update my submission process. Thanks, Nancy!
