What kind of mind?
Sep. 8th, 2005 04:30 pmOne of my mailing lists - normally a technical list - has been filled with back-and-forth about Katrina, some genuine guidance for helping, and quite a bit of political yackity-hacking. Today, though, someone dredged up the fact that Repent America apparently is touting the destruction of New Orleans as an act of God aimed at blocking a homosexual celebration that was going to be held there soon.
Yes, they say that this was an intentional act by their God. Something like the destruction of Lot.
I thought blaming politicians and other humans showed some kind of hubris. What does blaming your God take?
God swirled up a Cat 4 or 5 hurricane to block a homosexual celebration?
What does it take to make someone think this way? Do they realize the human tragedy that they are devaluing, the kind of suffering that they are saying their God deals out as inconsequential side-effects of his punishments? If God were that insane, would it not be our proud duty to revolt, to stand in Hell alongside the fallen angels?
