I haven't seen that memo
Jan. 3rd, 2007 10:21 pmThe radio announcers that I was listening to started joking around, and one mentioned that they still had their jobs. Another one immediately commented that he hadn't seen that memo yet. The first one backtracked, saying that of course they didn't get a pink slip, so they just kind of should just keep working.
It does seem peculiarly unbalanced that managers and leaders so rarely indicated people that they still have their jobs. If someone is doing a bad job, that's when we tell them about it. But if they are doing the work that we want them to do, the odds are that we don't bother saying anything. Thus reducing the chance that they will continue to do the work we want.
Perhaps every boss should consider occasionally letting people know that they are doing the right job?
