mbarker | Quick catchup for rakugo!

just a quick overview of last week (3/10-15). It was actually fairly important, developing the character of Kosojyaku a bit, setting up a crisis over who will continue the name of Sojyaku, and with a fun twist on the poor uncle . . . but there were a couple of days that felt as if they were stretching things out to fill time.

Short form: Kosojyaku played sick to avoid doing the show with the barber, then disappears. In the meantime, the other students are holding a memorial for the teacher, and the Tenguzan head comes in (and eats the offering from the household shrine - a cute little bit, since Japanese people are very protective of those offerings). And he asks where Kosojyaku has gone, then asks just who is going to be shumei (continuing the name).

Tuesday was one of the few times that the entire 15 minutes has been spent in one scene. This was the Tenguzan head and the students. Interesting, but it felt as if they had stretched this day.

So people are trying to figure out why Kosojyaku has disappeared. And setting up for a media show at the factory in Obama. Kosojyaku talks to the fish fryer about it being good to find what you really can do. And the uncle finally wins a lottery. But now he's got a problem - should he use the money to get married or to help get a big star for the media show? Kiyomi talks to Kosojyaku about what he's doing, and gets told to leave him alone.

Along the way, Shiso explains his frustration - Kosojyaku isn't good at rakugo, but . . . And Ako asks Kiyomi to help with the media show.

Saturday, Kiyomi starts her show, talking about furosato (home country). And Kosojyaku turns up. But the uncle is trying to show off the big star he has hired, and fouls everything up. The show is falling apart . . .

And Kosojyako, like his father before him, walks up to the rakugo stage and gets everyone to listen and laugh at his performance. Tada!

So we find out that Kosojyaku really does love rakugo (his furosato is rakugo). And Saturday really was a good show. But we've only got a couple more weeks to get everything in!
