It's kind of an odd bit of information, but one of the shows on TV today explained that in 1960, as part of the response to a typhoon, the US flew in 36 pigs and 1500 Tons of corn.  And those 36 pigs have grown to about 70,000 since then.

Guess that shows that sometimes when you give someone a pig for food, they'll raise litters.

Interesting bit of trivia, any way.

Y'a know, I wondered the same thing. But apparently (according to the show) this was also the beginning of US corn trade with Japan? If I remember correctly, something like 40% of the livestock feed in Japan is US corn -- and they went on to say that countries around the world, such as Egypt and India, also depend heavily on US corn.

They didn't say how quickly Japan went through the original 1500 tons.

I just had this image of starving pigs breaking out and ravaging the countryside...but I'm thinking that's the impact of Halloween on my small brain.
