Music for bananas?
Feb. 22nd, 2011 10:44 amOK, I don't understand that.
One of the news stations here in Japan had a short piece about Dole's contribution to a marathon. Basically, good choice Philippine bananas intended to be given free to the runners. They showed them being cut green, wrapped in special "2011 Marathon" plastic bags, and put in special marked boxes. So far, so good.
But they also showed that the boxes of marathon bananas were treated to music along the way. "Runner," "We Are the Champions," and several other inspirational pieces, played through large loudspeakers placed near the stacks of boxes.
That's the part that left me scratching my head. I know I've heard about plants responding to music, Kobe beef cows enjoying their music, but... cut bananas, ripening in the box, just waiting to be eaten? I'm not sure that I understand the benefit of playing music for these bananas.
Although, I suppose playing music does give the news people something to show and talk about besides simple stacks of boxes.
I wonder if the marathon runners will notice that these are musically inspired bananas?
