a.k.a. the first time I saw father cry

Genbee (father) arguing with grandma. Apparently he wants to buy a sake manufacturer or something, and they are fighting. He's angry... Fumie comes in, and he orders her to stand straight!
( don't go to bed angry )

Fumie's voice tells us that this was the first time she had heard father cry.

Again, nice background, gives us a little more depth on the father and grandmother. But... when do I get the story?

aka an old maid at 28?

A very short -- less than a minute -- medley of short clips from the last three days. Then the theme.

And Fumie is making faces. Pull back and show us the friend with a baby! It's Showa 35, and Fumie is 28 years old. Then the other two friends from the sewing class show up, and everyone is talking about married life and children. Fumie, aren't you married yet? The voiceover explains that most women got married at 20, and if you weren't married by 28, you were an old maid.
( Wedding bells are going to play? )

Then the lady straightens things up, and jokes with the crowd about old maids...

Aha! So Fumie is feeling a lot of pressure to get married. And she's thinking getting married will make things easier?
