guchicommipowa - mouth communication power. Or, in other words, word-of-mouth power. In the new trends news on NHK the other morning, they were gushing about someone who has set up a website where ordinary people can post their discoveries about local restaurants, stores, and so on. Other ordinary people can add their ratings. And the good part, according to NHK, is that you and I can then search for a really good buy in our neighborhood on something, or when we visit someplace, see what's good there.

It does seem like a boost for informed purchasing, and might indeed help the free market run smoother. On the other hand, do I really believe that Joe down the street has good advice and tips on where to buy the best stuff? You almost need ratings of the raters. I tend to think it may reward the mediocre and mass desires more than necessarily providing us with good stuff.

I do like guchicomipowa though. Nice compact phrase that almost flows in Japanese. Cute!
